Crime check for an area
Search an address to see neighbourhood crime figures from police.uk for the surrounding area and the latest published month. These describe the area. They are not incidents at the address and not a safety rating.
What a report shows
- Recorded crime and anti-social behaviour for the latest published month, within about a mile of the postcode centre
- Counts by category, such as burglary, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour
- The month covered and the date of the check
- Coverage for addresses in England and Wales
What it does not show
- It does not show incidents at the address. Police.uk locations are anonymised to nearby map points.
- It is not a safety rating, and it does not describe any area as safe or unsafe.
- It is not a crime rate. Counts are not adjusted for population or visitor numbers.
- It covers one published month, so short-term changes can look larger than they are. Use police.uk to compare other months.
- Crime that is not reported or recorded is not included.
- Forces do not always supply data. Greater Manchester Police data was unavailable when we checked in November 2026, and an empty result does not mean no crime.
How to read the figures
The total is a count of records within about a mile of the postcode centre, so it can include town centres, stations and shopping streets that are some way from the house. Read the categories, then compare months on police.uk.
How to check crime in an area explains how the data is anonymised and where it falls short.
Why the location is approximate
Before publication, each crime is moved to a nearby anonymous map point, and the date is cut to the month. This protects victims and residents, and it means no record can be tied to one property. Data.police.uk estimates location accuracy at between 60% and 97%, depending on the force.
Checks that add context
- Visit in the evening and at the weekend, not only at a daytime viewing.
- Talk to neighbours and people who live nearby.
- Look at the wider picture in how to check an area before buying.
- Check the data.police.uk changelog if the figures look unusually low.
Questions, answered
Is this area safe?
A report cannot answer that, and it does not try to. It shows recorded figures for one month around a postcode. Use them to form questions, and visit the area yourself.
Why does the report show no crime records?
An empty result can come from a data gap, such as a force not supplying that month. It does not establish that no crime occurred. Check the data.police.uk changelog.
Does the crime check cover Scotland?
No. Doorstep Reports cover England and Wales. Police Scotland is not among the forces listed as supplying data.police.uk.
